Transvaldesia 2012

In the footsteps of Gustave Roud

Gustave Roud met new friends during his wanderings. He came to them, they came to him with their “wandering” theater project.

Perhaps the embarrassment, the discomfort that Gustave Roud carried within him with his peasant friends, will fade with his actor friends, his musician friends, who seek him along the road in the villages where his quest led him. , in contemplation of the same eternally beautiful landscapes despite the asphalt and concrete.

His new friends tell those who perhaps had not understood him, or had forgotten him, or ignored him, his aspirations, his reflections, his daydreams.

Music, German poetry, which he loved so much and translated, will echo his thoughts.

Dealing with all of Gustave Roud here is unthinkable. Reviving his memory, taking him to places that were dear to him with spectators whose parents and grandparents may have met him, greeted him along the fields without knowing him, this is the delicate test that will attempt to create the Atelier mobile de l'Estrée in a tour that could be called “Transvaldésia” in memory of a “Transhelvétia” whose hopes were assassinated. A tour of acrobats. No more no less. A form of decentralized theater which, fulfilling a wish that I had, will go from village to village, from town to town, in front of spectators who will be offered “texts by authors”.

To do this, a mobile stage, a trailer half-caravan of the “Faux Nez” half-cart of the “Illustre Théâtre” by Molière. “On a more modest note, of course” (Jean Villard-Gilles).

The bet, strictly speaking of staging, will be to make heard on the stage and around it by using the environment specific to each place of performance (village square, farmyard, orchard, etc.), a little of the texts and the melancholy and demanding personality of Gustave Roud by a poetic montage where music and words will respond to each other along a journey whose aim is as much to delight the ear with these words and this music as to give the spectators the desire to know more by immersing themselves in their turn in reading the works of Gustave Roud.
